WHAT IS PHLEBOTOMY?
Phlebotomy is the practice of drawing blood from patients and taking the blood specimens to the laboratory to prepare for testing.
NATIONAL CERTIFICATION PREPATORY PROGRAM TO BECOME A CERTIFED PHLEBOTOMIST.
This course is designed for individuals, interested in gaining further knowledge in Phlebotomy or Blood Collection.
A Phlebotomist generally works in a clinical laboratory under the supervision of an appropriate technologist. The Phlebotomist is primarily responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients for the purpose of laboratory analysis.
This is a 30 - 35 hour class and it will be focusing on teaching the principles and skills of Phlebotomy. General information will be given to each student regarding becoming certified by NATIONAL CERTIFICATION AGENCIES.
This nationally approved program will prepare you to obtain specimens from healthcare clients for the purpose of laboratory testing. You will learn to collect and process blood samples and other body fluids in a safe and accurate manner. A certificate of competence will be awarded when you complete the program requirements with a minimum grade of 74%.
Participants who complete the program are eligible to take the national certification exam provided by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCEY - PHLEBOTOMY
Upon successful completion of the Certificate of Competence in Phlebotomy, the student should be able to Perform tasks assigned in a clinical laboratory as a phlebotomist/laboratory assistant and move up the career ladder to become medical laboratory technicians upon completion of the AS degree in MLT at KCC.
