Program Description


Course objectives

This nationally approved program will prepare you to obtain specimens from healthcare clients for the purpose of laboratory testing. You will learn to collect and process blood samples and other body fluids in a safe and accurate manner. A certificate of competence will be awarded when you complete the program requirements with a minimum grade of 74%.

This is a 60 – 90 hour class and it will be focusing on teaching the principles and skills of phlebotomy. General information will be given to each student regarding becoming certified by national certification agencies.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a certificate of completion and will be eligible for National Certification through the American Education Certification Association (AECA).

Certificate of competency

Upon successful completion of the certificate of competence in phlebotomy, the student should be able to perform tasks assigned in a clinical laboratory as a phlebotomist/laboratory assistant and move up the career ladder to become medical laboratory technicians upon completion of an Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technician at Kapiolani Community College.
